Frightening warning in monkeypox epidemic: Symptoms are changing

Frightening warning in the monkeypox epidemic: Symptoms are changing While the world continues to fight the corona virus epidemic, the statements that cause concern about the monkeypox disease, which has started to spread rapidly in recent weeks, continue to come... symptoms began to change" came the warning.

Monkeypox disease, which is generally seen in the western and central regions of Africa and is endemic in 11 countries, has started to be seen in dozens of countries in recent months and has created a great panic.

New information about monkeypox, which has been detected one after another in many countries and continents, especially in the USA, Spain, Portugal and England, continues to come

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one of the leading health institutions in the USA, where the disease is spreading rapidly, warned the Americans by making a statement. The organization warned healthcare professionals and said that different symptoms should be paid attention to in patients. "The symptoms of monkeypox have begun to differ from those seen in Africa in the past," the statement said.

"In some new cases, acne-like bumps and deformations can occur instead of redness and blisters spreading all over people's body," said CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. Walensky pointed out that in some cases only small blisters appear, and stated that this is the only symptom throughout the disease.

“In general, monkeypox is mild and occurs in some parts of the body,” Walensky said. However, symptoms different from the classical symptoms of diseases seen in West and Central Africa are seen. "This shows that many patients may be overlooked or undiagnosed."

“This disease usually manifests itself with blisters on the face, hands and arms. However, recently, blisters form in the genital areas and around the anus of the patients, and then flu-like symptoms appear, and in some cases, even flu-like symptoms are not seen.

While it was stated that some patients in the USA felt pain and inflammation in the rectum region, it was also noted that this was not seen in monkeypox disease in the past.

On the other hand, University of Pennsylvania Dr. Stuart Isaacs also made a statement. Dr. Isaacs said, “The West African variant may cause the disease to be milder. But if you have even a small amount of redness and blisters in your body, you may be sick. You should pay attention to regional lesions," he said.

Isaacs suggested that symptoms may also vary depending on the mode of transmission

The virus, first seen in humans in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1970s, has increased dramatically in western Africa over the past 10 years. The disease is manifested by skin rashes on the face and rest of the body, and also causes symptoms such as fever and headache.

The monkeypox virus, which comes from the same virus family as smallpox, is less deadly, but the Congo variant, one of its two types, can have a mortality rate of 10 percent.
